Early Poem

· From the old site

I wrote this poem at the very beginning of one of my most cherished seasons of life. Back in November, a movement of waking up at absurd hours of the morning to read, pray, and enjoy community spread like wildfire in Boulder. For about two or three months, people would gather at houses like this, watching the sunrise together, talking about the sort of lives we wanted to live, praying that God would move in our lives and in our city. This poem has countless memories that I will cherish forever woven into it.

wake up

but wake up twice

wake up your eyes

wake up your life

do it soon

catch the dawn’s first light

watch every morning

come from every night

do it with them

the ones that you love

the ones on their knees

wearing holes in the rug

listen to Him

the One who loves you

His inexpressible Voice

and the sacred silence too
